NodeSIM FAQs – IoT Data SIMs, Coverage & Activation
NodeSIM Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about NodeSIM IoT data SIM cards, multi-network connectivity, international coverage, PoC radio compatibility, activation and subscriptions.
General Questions
What is NodeSIM?
NodeSIM provides multi-network mobile data SIM cards for compatible low-data devices, including Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) radios, GPS trackers, security systems and IoT equipment.
Our aim is to provide straightforward mobile connectivity with predictable annual costs and a simple activation process.
What devices can I use with NodeSIM?
NodeSIM is suitable for a range of compatible devices, including:
- 4G Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) radios
- GPS and vehicle tracking devices
- Security and alarm systems
- Remote monitoring equipment
- Telemetry and IoT devices
- Low-data 4G routers
Your equipment must be unlocked and support the mobile network technologies used by the SIM.
Can NodeSIM be used in a mobile phone?
NodeSIM is intended primarily for dedicated data equipment rather than everyday smartphone use.
It is not designed for conventional mobile phone calls, standard text messaging, video streaming or other high-data activities.
Is NodeSIM suitable for PoC radios?
Yes. NodeSIM is designed for compatible Push-to-Talk over Cellular radios that use mobile data networks to communicate.
It can provide a cost-effective option for businesses operating multiple PoC radios with predictable annual connectivity charges.
Data consumption depends on talk time, the application being used, GPS reporting and other background activities.
Network Coverage & Connectivity
Which mobile networks does NodeSIM use?
NodeSIM provides multi-network connectivity through supported mobile network operators.
In the United Kingdom all NodeSIM cards operate on 3, EE, 02 and Vodafone Networks
Unlike a SIM restricted to a single operator, a multi-network SIM can provide additional connectivity options where supported networks are available.
Actual network access depends on the SIM service, device capabilities, location and local operator availability.
Does NodeSIM automatically connect to the strongest network?
Network selection depends on the SIM configuration, the device and the supported mobile operators available at your location.
Multi-network access can provide additional connection options, but does not guarantee that a device will always connect to the network with the strongest signal. It will try and select the most reliable in that area.
Will NodeSIM work in rural or remote locations?
NodeSIM's multi-network capability may provide additional coverage options in rural locations where individual network coverage varies.
However, mobile connectivity still depends on cellular network coverage. Terrain, buildings, antenna performance and local network conditions can affect the connection.
We recommend testing any equipment at the intended operating location, particularly where connectivity is important to business operations.

Important: Supported-country listings do not guarantee coverage at every location. Connectivity depends on supported local operators, coverage, equipment compatibility and the terms of your SIM plan.
If you require service in a particular country, please confirm the applicable coverage and roaming terms before purchasing.
Data Plans & Subscriptions
How much data is included with NodeSIM?
The standard NodeSIM plan includes 800MB of mobile data per month for 12 months.
This allowance is intended for low-data devices such as PoC radios, GPS tracking equipment, remote monitoring and other IoT applications.
Check your equipment's expected data consumption before purchasing.
Is 800MB per month enough for a PoC radio?
For many PoC radio applications, 800MB per month may be sufficient. However, consumption depends on how the radio is used.
Data consumption is affected by:
- Frequency and duration of radio communications
- PoC application and audio codec
- GPS tracking intervals
- Background data activity
- Application and firmware updates
We recommend checking the typical data requirements of your specific application.
Is there a monthly contract?
The standard NodeSIM plan is purchased for a fixed 12-month service period rather than requiring separate monthly SIM rental payments.
This can make it easier for businesses and installers to plan their connectivity costs.
How long does a NodeSIM subscription last?
The standard NodeSIM subscription provides 12 months of service from activation, subject to your plan conditions.
You can check your recorded expiry date online.
Can I renew my NodeSIM subscription?
You can check your subscription details and access available renewal options through our SIM Status page.
SIM Activation & Setup
How do I activate my NodeSIM?
Activating your SIM is straightforward:
- Visit our SIM Activation page.
- Enter your contact details and SIM ICCID number.
- Complete the required information.
- Submit your activation request.
- Wait for activation confirmation before using the SIM.
Do I need to activate my SIM immediately?
NodeSIM cards can be purchased in advance and activated when required, subject to the conditions of the purchased plan.
This can be useful for businesses and installers who want to keep spare SIM cards in stock for future deployments.
What is an ICCID and where can I find it?
The ICCID is the unique identification number assigned to your SIM card.
It is normally printed on the SIM card or its packaging and may be required when requesting activation or checking subscription details.
Does NodeSIM require APN settings?
Some devices require manual Access Point Name (APN) configuration before they can establish a mobile data connection.
Always use the APN settings provided for your NodeSIM service rather than settings from another mobile operator.
If you are unsure how to configure your device, contact us with the equipment make and model.
Troubleshooting & Support
Why is my NodeSIM not connecting?
If your device cannot connect to mobile data, check the following:
- Confirm your SIM has been activated.
- Check that your device is unlocked and compatible.
- Make sure the SIM is inserted correctly.
- Ensure mobile data is enabled.
- Confirm that the APN settings are correct.
- Check for suitable mobile network coverage.
- Restart the device and allow it to reconnect.
If the problem continues, contact NodeSIM support with your device details and a description of the issue.
What happens if my device loses mobile coverage?
If your device moves outside an area with supported cellular coverage, the mobile data connection may be interrupted.
Depending on the device configuration, it may reconnect automatically when suitable coverage becomes available.
Multi-network connectivity can provide additional connection options but cannot eliminate every coverage gap.
How can I check when my SIM expires?
Visit our SIM Status page and enter the requested SIM and order details.
You can look up your recorded subscription information, including the expiry date.
Installers & Business Customers
Do you offer SIM packs for installers?
Yes. NodeSIM offers a 10-SIM Installer Pack for businesses, professional installers and organisations requiring multiple connections.
This can be suitable for deploying multiple PoC radios, tracking systems, alarm devices or other compatible IoT equipment.
Can I activate SIMs individually from an Installer Pack?
Yes. Individual SIM activation allows installers to keep SIMs in stock and request activation when devices are ready for deployment, subject to the plan conditions.
This can make it easier to manage installations taking place on different dates.
Is NodeSIM suitable for businesses with multiple devices?
Yes. NodeSIM is intended for businesses requiring connectivity across multiple compatible low-data devices.
Typical applications include PoC radio fleets, vehicle tracking, telemetry, remote monitoring and security systems.
Fixed annual subscriptions can make connectivity costs easier to predict and manage.
